NACM G43 High Test chain is a carbon steel chain known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. It’s not approved for overhead lifting but is excellent for load binding, towing, and logging. It is a durable, cost-effective choice for many industrial and agricultural applications.
“NACM” stands for the National Association of Chain Manufacturers, which sets the standards for chains sold in North America. “G43” or “Grade 43” refers to the chain’s strength rating. It is a quality benchmark ensuring the chain meets specific performance requirements.
| Component | Meaning | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| NACM | National Association of Chain Manufacturers | The standard-setting body. |
| G | Grade | A prefix indicating a strength rating. |
| 43 | Strength Value | Specifies the chain’s tensile strength and working load limit. |
G43 is stronger than standard G30 (Proof Coil) chain,n but not as strong as G70 (Transport) chain. It offers a great balance of strength and cost for non-lifting tasks. It is not approved for any overhead lifting applications.

G43 High Test chain is ideal for rugged, non-lifting tasks. Its main uses include load securing for trucking, towing, logging, and general-purpose jobs in agriculture and construction. Overhead lifting is strictly prohibited.
It is crucial to match the chain to the task. The most important rule for G43 is simple: its feet must stay on the ground. Never use it to lift something over people’s heads. It is not designed or tested for that kind of dynamic, life-critical load. This is a topic I always discuss with my clients because safety is my number one priority. So where should you use it?
G43 chain is excellent for securing equipment or materials to a flatbed trailer. When used with load binders, it provides the tension needed to hold everything in place during transport.
Think about towing farm implements or pulling logs out of a forest. The high tensile strength of G43 chain makes it perfect for these tough, dragging applications. It can handle a lot of force and abrasion.
You can also use it for guardrails, securing containers, or as a heavy-duty utility chain around a construction site or workshop. It is a versatile and durable tool for many jobs.
Look for clear grade markings, such as “43” or “G43,” on the links. Always ask for a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) for the specific batch you are buying. A good supplier will also provide proof of their own quality control tests and certifications.
First, look at the chain itself. An AG43 chain will have “43,” “G43,” or the manufacturer’s code stamped on the links at intervals of every few feet. If there are no markings, that is a huge red flag. Do not buy it.
Second, ask for the paperwork. An MTC is a document from the steel mill that shows the chemical makeup and strength tests for that specific batch of steel. A generic certificate is not good enough. You need the certificate that matches your order. This proves the raw material is correct.
Finally, ask what they do in their own factory. At UU LIFTING, we do not just trust the MTC. We perform our own strict working tension and breaking tension tests on samples from every batch. We are proud to hold ISO 9001 and CE certifications. This extra step is how we ensure your safety and that of your workers.
